We would like to inform you that the 2026 Overseas Korean Scholarship Program (OKSP) application is now open.

We encourage Overseas Korean students in the United States who wish to pursue a degree in Korea to take interest in this opportunity.

The Overseas Koreans Cooperation Center operates the Overseas Korean Scholarship Program each year to foster talented individuals who can contribute to both the global Korean community and the development of Korea. Through this program, scholarships are provided to Overseas Korean students who wish to pursue undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral studies at universities in Korea. We encourage Overseas Korean students who are interested in studying in Korea—or who are currently studying there—to apply.

1. Program Purpose

To cultivate global talents who can contribute to the development of the Overseas Korean community as well as foster mutual growth between their country of residence and Korea by supporting outstanding Overseas Korean students pursuing higher education in Korea.

2. Selection Overview

Number of Recipients: 80 students
(Undergraduate: TBD / Master’s & Doctoral: TBD)
The final number of recipients by category will be determined based on the number of applications.

Scholarship Benefits

• Living allowance: KRW 13,200,000 per year
• Airfare (initial arrival and return ticket)
• Korean language training (if necessary)
• Thesis printing support (KRW 500,000)
• Insurance coverage (health, injury, and accidents)

  • OKFriends activities and other exchange programs among Overseas Koreans

3. Selection Criteria

Required Qualification
Applicants must demonstrate academic excellence and possess the potential to contribute to the development of the Overseas Korean community and foster cooperation between Korea and their country of residence.

Preferred Qualifications

• Descendants of distinguished Overseas Koreans or those who have contributed to Overseas Korean communities (documentation required)
• Applicants facing financial hardship (documentation or confirmation by the Korean diplomatic mission)
• Overseas Korean adoptees and children of adoptees
• Applicants with strong Korean language proficiency (proof required)

4. Eligibility

Applicants must be:

1. U.S. citizens,
2. Permanent residents of the United States, or
3. Overseas Koreans who hold Korean nationality.

Additionally:

• Applicants must have completed or be expected to complete all prior education outside Korea.

Example:
Applicants for a master’s program must have completed all undergraduate education outside Korea.

• Applicants must plan to enter a Korean university (undergraduate or graduate program) in either the Fall 2026 semester or Spring 2027 semester.

5. Application Timeline

• March 10 – April 10: Applicants submit applications online (Korean.net) and offline to the Korean diplomatic mission in their country of residence.
• May: Application review and first-round selection by the Center.
• June: Interviews conducted (for Master’s and Doctoral applicants only; in-person or online).
  
  • Undergraduate applicants will not be interviewed.
• June: Final selection and announcement of scholarship recipients.

6. Additional Information

Application Method
Complete the online application and submit the printed application to the Korean diplomatic mission in your country of residence.
(Submission within Korea is not permitted unless you were previously selected as a scholarship recipient.)
